Walmart Urged To Forgive Muslim-Jibe Manager
A Muslim advocacy group is asking US superstore Walmart to rehire an employee who posted derogatory comments about Muslim customers on Facebook.
Bosses fired Terry Earsing for the remarks but now The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has urged the store to give him his old job back.
Mr Earsing, an assistant manager at a Walmart in New York state, has offered a sincere apology for the expletive-filled posting alongside a picture of Muslim women in traditional dress.
"Halloween came early this year. ... Do they really have to ... dress like that." he wrote.
At the time, a Walmart spokeswoman told the Buffalo News: "As soon as we became aware we began looking into this and as a result this associate is no longer with the company.
"We set high expectations for our associates, and this associate clearly failed to meet these expectations at every level."
Mr Earsing said the incident was a joke that went too far. "I'm truly, honestly sorry about the whole thing," he said. "I just apologise. I don't know what else I can say."
Neither Earsing nor Walmart were available for comment.
