Werner Herzog to receive lifetime achievement honour
Revered director Werner Herzog is to be celebrated by the German Film Academy in recognition of his contribution to the country's movie industry.
The Grizzly Man moviemaker will be honoured with a lifetime achievement prize at the 2013 German Film Awards ceremony, which take place in Berlin on 26 April.
Herzog, who has previously won four prizes at the annual bash, insists he is "delighted" by the accolade, calling it "the highest honour that one can receive in German cinema".
In a statement, Academy Jury president Iris Berben adds, "Werner Herzog has not only made some of the most important and original films of the New German Cinemas school, with several of his film titles he also enriched our country's vocabulary.
"As a visionary film artist with a never subsiding courage he has remained on the move and in addition to several great feature films has newly defined the boundaries of the documentary."
