William Roache Accuser 'Warned By Co-Star'
A woman who claims she was sexually assaulted by Coronation Street actor William Roache says one of his fellow cast members warned her: "He will lead you astray."
The alleged victim, now in her late fifties, told Mr Roache's trial that she was groped by him when she was a schoolgirl in her teens.
The woman told Preston crown court via a video link that she used to go to the Granada television studios in Manchester to collect autographs.
She said that on one occasion Peter Adamson, who played Len Fairclough in the soap, looked towards his fellow actor and said: "You want to keep an eye on him. He will lead you astray."
Mr Adamson then referred to Mr Roache as "Cockroach," the woman claimed.
Under cross-examination the alleged victim admitted having been mistaken when she told the court last week that the Coronation Street character concerned was Mike Baldwin rather than Len Fairclough.
She told the court that she had cried when she realised she had made the mistake because she was "mixed-up, upset and confused".
Defence barrister Louise Blackwell QC suggested that the witness was not telling the truth.
She replied: "It happened, no matter what he is saying or what your job is. I have no reason to lie."
The alleged victim accepted that she was also wrong to have claimed that Mr Roache had given her a lift home from the Granada studios in his Rolls Royce.
She said: "I am human - and I am going back a very long time."
The woman accuses the defendant of putting his hand up her skirt and fondling her breasts, an allegation he denies.
Mr Roache, 81, from Wilmslow, Cheshire, denies two counts of raping a 15-year-old girl in 1967.
He also denies five counts of indecent assault involving four girls aged 16 or under between 1965 and 1971.
The trial continues.
