Woman faces iPad fraud charges

A woman has appeared in court charged with a 620,000 iPad fraud involving scores of alleged victims who hoped to give them as Christmas presents.

Kirsty Cox, 36, allegedly took payment for 4,000 of the tablet computers from individuals and groups, having offered them at attractive but believable prices.

She would then buy some at a loss from PC World, but not be able to complete the full order, it is alleged.

She appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court, County Durham, charged with five counts of fraud by misrepresentation. The fraud charges amount to 621,689.

The defendant, with shoulder-length brown hair and wearing a grey padded anorak, did not enter any pleas.

She was remanded in custody after no application for bail was made, and she will appear before the same court on December 28 for a hearing to commit her case to the crown court.

Cox, of Hamsterley Road, Newton Aycliffe, will appear via videolink from prison.
