Wrong-Way Motorway Death Driver Museka Jailed

A drink-driver who killed an aspiring model by driving the wrong way down a motorway has been jailed for eight years.

Wilfred Museka was travelling at "motorway speed" when he caused a head-on crash that left 20-year-old Rebecca Caine, from Leeds, with fatal injuries.

Zimbabwean national Museka, 31, had pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving at an earlier hearing at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.

Ms Caine's family and friends sobbed as the court heard how the force of the crash flung her from the car onto the M62 near Manchester.

She suffered severe injuries to her face, head and body.

Museka, who came to the UK as an asylum seeker from Zimbabwe, had also admitted fraudulently claiming to have held a full UK driving licence for 10 years, driving with no insurance and with excess alcohol.

Rebecca had been returning to Leeds from a night out in Manchester in the early hours of September 16. The court heard she was in the back seat of a car being driven by a friend. They were said to be "singing happily" in the vehicle shortly before the accident, between junctions 21 and 22.

Rebecca's parents, twin brother and younger sister were in court to see Museka jailed.

They paid tribute to her at the time of her death, in a statement which read: "As you can imagine our lives are shattered and our hearts are broken into pieces.

"She was a beautiful girl with her whole life ahead of her. She was embarking on a modelling career and would be finishing her final year of her business degree at Leeds University.

"Rebecca was a bright light that attracted everything to her with her infectious laugh and her beaming smile.

"She saw the best in everyone and was loved by hundreds of friends. The worst part is the emptiness and the total waste of a beautiful life. She was only 20 when she died.

"She was our little girl now she is our little angel. Something somewhere has failed us."

Museka had previously been convicted of drink-driving and had been caught driving while disqualified on three occasions in the past.

In sentencing Museka, Judge Adrian Smith said Miss Caine had a "bright and happy future to look forward to".

He added: "No sentence of this court can possibly reflect the loss of a life such as Becky's."

Its high time the lowlifes that cause deaths by drink driving were charged with manslaughter as they deliberately get in a car and drive when they know they are drunk and not in control of their car. He is a guest in our country we have given him sanctury and this is how he repays us, as far as I am concerned we should kick his selfish butt back to wherever he has come from

Unfortunatly Jennie he is one of many driving around without Insurance and probably never passed a UK driving test either! Cracking down on this sort of anti-social crime is something our new Crime Commisioners need to look at. Along with SOOOO many other issues! Shame police numbers are being cut!!

I couldn't agree more about the manslaughter charge, and the fact that these people are NOT grateful to us for giving them asylum. He should serve at east 15 years and then be sent home - no appeals.

Edgar, are you living on this planet? Poor chap? Whats to feel sorry for about him. He's a convicted criminal, repeatedly broke the law and then drove without insurance while drunk, down a motorway going the wrong way, killing an innocent girl. You really are an idiot to hold these views. You appear to be the type of person who would sit on a jury and find the most obvious guilty person not guilty, for whatever reasons you may seem to hold dear. One wonders where people like you learn your values and beliefs from.

Send him home. I'm studying criminology at university n it's reportedly to cost £29,000 a year (figures from 2010) to keep some in prison (that's without special guards or segregation) look at that over 8 years ure looking at almost a quarter of amok lion pound paid by the taxpayers

I'm sure I can't be the only person who gets totally frustrated when reading these news issues and finds that time and time again these people should not be here and they have been arrested many times but are released out and allowed to continue with their crimes. If the Government, MPs and particularly the Judges can't sort this out views to reflect the public then we need to get rid of them but how? A party that would be prepared to take on the Judges and legal system would be a good start.

The problem is the corrosive influence of Christian Pacifists and other religeous groups in the judiciary who are, in reality, opposed to any form of authoritarian justice. Accordingly to them, we should 'forgive'. Insanity!
