EuroMillions Winners: We Won't Blow £45m Prize

The couple who bagged the £45m rollover jackpot in Tuesday's EuroMillions draw have revealed they were trying to buy a second-hand washing machine when they discovered they had won.

Cassey Carrington and Matt Topham, both 22, from Nottingham, also revealed they were already planning to get married in September.

They banked a staggering total of £45,160,170.50 - the seventh-largest jackpot ever to have been won in the UK.

And, speaking at a Camelot press conference, they said their first thoughts upon realising they had won was what they could do for friends and family.

Ms Carrington, a supervisor at Iceland, said she set up her online account only last Friday because she was feeling lucky.

"I did have a feeling I was going to win," she said.

"The minimum you could put into the account was £5, so I did that and bought one EuroMillions ticket for Friday."

And the pair revealed that on the day of the draw, Mr Topham's laptop computer and their washing machine broke down within minutes of each other.

She said he had been searching for a used replacement or spare parts for the washing machine on the internet when she decided to check the lottery numbers on her phone.

"I checked the numbers against the ones there, but it wasn't sinking in that they were the same," she said.

Asked about their immediate reaction, she said: "The first thought was how much we could help our families."

She said she wanted to buy and Aston Martin and to build a new house with the winnings, while Mr Topham said he planned to learn to fly.

Mr Topham, who works for a painting and decorating business run by his father, said: "I have often painted these huge houses and wondered what it would be like to live in one, now I can find out."

Ms Carrington added: "It's something we'll manage. We're not just going to blow it all."

The last big UK winners were Gareth and Catherine Bull. The builder and his wife banked £40,627,241 after matching the numbers from a Lucky Dip ticket on the EuroMillions draw on January 20.

But the biggest-ever EuroMillions prize was a jackpot of more than £161m won by Colin and Chris Weir, from Largs, Scotland, last year.

A Camelot spokesman said: "It is fantastic news to have another UK winner so soon after Gareth and Catherine Bull from Mansfield won £40m.

"These big draws help raise the £30m the National Lottery generates for good causes every week."

Camelot said Friday's jackpot is an estimated £12m.

Agree! It's like the monthly £million pound premium bond draw, never see anyone with less than £30K holding winning such large amounts, doesn't hold out any hope for any of Joe Public that bought the odd few over the years!

Good for them. They just have to try and be careful that the money doesn't go to their heads and change them so much that their relationship is destroyed.

amelia, get a life. lots of people have nothing for a reason. also this couple are already considering how they can help friends and family. many very rich people do a lot for charity because they've become super rich. this way really deserving people get help instead of wasting it on the lazy, scrounging, benthic feeders.
