YouTube blocked over Prophet video

The government in Bangladesh has blocked YouTube to prevent people from seeing an anti-Islam video produced in the US ridiculing the Prophet Mohammed.

Independent and Somoy television stations said the government blocked the popular video search engine late yesterday.

On Sunday, the chief of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission said the government sent a letter to Google, which owns YouTube, urging it to remove the video. Premier Sheikh Hasina made the same request.

Google has blocked access to the video in Libya and Egypt following violence there, and in Indonesia and India because it says the video broke laws in those countries.

Bangladesh is a Muslim-majority nation of 160 million people but is governed by laws based on British common law.

what do you think?

Why should it be blocked? Muslims are not being forced to watch the video. Today a French magazine has printed cartoons that muslims won't like - but as the editor says - "I'm not asking strict Muslims to read Charlie Hebdo, just like I wouldn't go to a mosque to listen to speeches that go against everything I believe." Is he wrong? I don't think so.

I see you logic JR but there is also an issue regarding offensive material or something which incites hatred. This is a difficult area but bottom line must be that what has been done does not justify murder, riots etc. Do you also realise that Google and YouTube can block what we say but not that which causes mass hysteria!!

I totally agree with you. The video was unknown to the world until these idiots started rioting. I am a Muslim myself and i strongly condem what these guys are up to. Youtube has nothing to do with this..if youtube is blocked there are so many other video hosting sites that has the video. Who asked the muslims to go watch the video ? they are the ones who are giving this video popularity. The person who wants to watch will find a way to watch it. no point blocking youtube.
