Noisettes - 'Never Forget You'

Noisettes

Editor's rating

'Never Forget You', the third single to be taken from Noisettes' second album, Wild Young Hearts, sees the London trio take a less disco-inspired route than demonstrated on the collection's previous outings.
Multi-afroed singer Shingai Shoniwa purrs with her naturally soulful croon over a Duffy-esque backing, with extra swing provided by drummer Jamie Morrison's skilful tubthumping.
Bolstered by a string accompaniment, 'Never Forget You' belongs to a rare niche in pop. Away from the over-subscribed 'break-up' anthem, there is a little-known genre called 'it-might-not-have-worked-between-us-but-no-hard-feelings-eh', a collection of musical oddities that now includes Noisettes' new single.
"My sweet joy, always remember me..." It's a moving tale made all the more romantic by the fact the majority of us have never managed to bring a relationship to a close without compromising our dignity.
It's not all good, though. Much like the ubiquitous 'Don't Upset The Rhythm', a strong chorus and verse melody is let down by much-maligned and bodged-together lyrics - rendering much of the song's potentially stirring sentiment fairly redundant.
