And so the '60s soul-pop revival rolls on. The latest to line up alongside Duffy and co is Pixie (real name Victoria) Lott; a British, blonde-topped, butter-wouldn't-melt 18-year-old, who's launching her assault on the charts and ears of the nation with 'Mama Do (Uh Oh, Uh Oh).
It's a syrupy-sweet slice of youthful rebellion in which the throaty young songstress wonders, "What would my mama do/If she knew 'bout me and you?" Considering that the previous verse details sneaking out at night to meet this chum, chances are that Ma Lott won't be breaking out the tea and cake anytime soon.
But it's a thoroughly enjoyable blast of handclapping, cymbal-crashing pop, and features some of the catchiest "uh-oh-uh-oh"-ing since Beyoncé's 'Crazy In Love'. Pixie's undeniably impressive vocals still come off rather more Gabriella Cilmi than Amy Winehouse, but it's a sterling start from a definite one-to-watch.
