Amazing escape as bar collapses on cliff edge
A BASE jumper survived a 1200m fall after a routine on a gymnast's bar on the edge of a sheer cliff went badly wrong in Norway.
Richard Henriksen was performing the stunt for a TV show when the bar suddenly collapsed, sending him flying over the edge.
Video footage of the accident shows him completing one somersault around the metal bar before the accident happened.
Mr Henriksen, a father-of-five, is then seen flying over the edge of cliff head-first, as onlookers watch in horror.
TV presenter Are Sende Osen, who was filming the stunt for the NRK TV network, said everyone watching let out a huge gasp.
Amazingly, Mr Henriksen narrowly missed falling against the rock face of the cliff and managed to open his parachute on the way down.
The BASE jumper said the full gravity of the situation did not hit home until he was playing with his children afterwards.
"I sat with the two youngest children, reading and singing to them. Then it dawned on me that my children could have been without a dad," he said.
