Another hunter is shot by his own dog

A Florida man has become the second hunter in two weeks to be shot by his own dog.
Billy E Brown, 78, was driving to go deer hunting when his bulldog, Eli, managed to discharged a rifle into his leg.
He had been heading for a deer hunting spot in Pasco County with a friend when he was shot in the thigh, reports Fox News.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Gary Morse said: "His friend was riding next to him in the front seat, with the dog and the gun in between them."
As the trio drove down a rough limestone road, Eli "got excited in the truck" and knocked against the rifle, firing off a round.
Hit just above the right knee, Brown was rushed to hospital in Tampa where he underwent surgery. His condition is described as stable.
Late last month, a Utah hunter was shot in the buttocks by his dog during a botched duck hunt.
Doctors removbed 27 pellets of bird shot from the 46-year-old's body following the mishap.
what do you think?

Philip, it was the chap 2 weeks ago that was shot with a shotgun. From what I remember he was in a boat with his dog (I think) when the dog started jumping about and apparently knocked the safety off and then jumped on the trigger. Totally agree with transporting issues tho, surely it common sense not to carry it loaded.. can you imagine the polices reaction if that happened here?

Come now Andrew, you dont expect people to actually read all of the article before they spout their two penneth do you? :)

If these people want to shoot defenceless animals for sport, why shouldn't armed animals shoot them for sport. What goes around, comes around.

Have these hunters never heard of putting the safety catch on?

A shotgun is moved from one venue to another with both barrals clear of any cartridges. The gun is carried on a shoot with its barrels unlocked between each shot and between every moving to a place to shoot. If these men had followed basic principles and been correctly in charge of their weapons this could never have happened - stupid Americans.

The idiot deserved it.

Mike Drouin
what is it with these stupid amatures ,i know lots of people who take part in country pursuits and would never ever transport a gun unless it was brocken and unloaded , what idiots hope it stung .

TW
in both cases the american hunters were very lucky as they were shot only milimeters from their brains.

Seems as though nature took its course here -fate, I'd say. Go killing wildlife when you don't need the food (there are supermarkets ful all over the USA).

If they removed bird shot from his body its not a rifle but a shotgun - a completely different weapon. And haven't any of these idiots heard of a thing called a safety catch and maybe be even unloading the gun when they are transporting it? He must have been shot at close range so he is lucky he didn't blow his leg clean off and even luckier it wasn't his head.
