Baseball proposal is struck out

A US man is regretting his boldness in proposing to his girlfriend in front of a stadium full of baseball fans.

The would-be groom, called David, made the very public proposal at a New Britain Rock Cats minor league game in Connecticut.

The stadium announcer brought the couple onto the pitch and told the crowd that David had a question to ask his girlfriend.

"Will you marry me Jessica?" David asked, getting down on one knee.

Anticipating a romantic moment, the crowds starts to cheer - until they see that Jessica isn't looking too happy.

"David, I'm sorry, I can't," she says before running off.

The awkward moment is compounded when the announcer starts laughing.

"Sorry, I don't mean to laugh. David, I don't think we've ever had this happen before," he tells the crest-fallen boyfriend who follows his girlfriend by running off the pitch.

A video of the incident has been uploaded to YouTube where it has been viewed nearly 500,000 times.
