Daredevil surfer rides 100ft wave
A Hawaiian surfer has told of the "overwhelming" feeling of catching a 100ft monster wave off Portugal.
Garrett McNamara is thought to have broken his own record by catching the wave off the coast of Nazare.
The 45-year-old surfing legend admitted he had been apprehensive about the world record attempt, reports The Mirror.
"It's the most challenging, dangerous wave I've ever surfed - it's the only place in the world in which a giant canyon reaches all the way to the beach.
"I was totally in the moment. PCP - present, connected and protected.
"When I got on the board and they pulled me up with tow rope everything just felt right, it was like magic."
Experts are now analysing the size of the wave to verify claims the record has been broken.
McNamara set the current world record, also in Nazare, in November 2011 when he skilfully rode a 78ft wave.
