Dead cat turned into helicopter
A Dutch artist has turned his dead cat Orville into a helicopter - which he calls the Orvillecopter.
Bart Jansen had his pet stuffed after he was hit by a car before enlisting the help of radio control helicopter flier Arjen Beltman to build the unique machine.
The Orvillecopter - "half cat, half machine" - is now on show at the Kunstrai art festival in Amsterdam, the Dutch capital.
Mr Jansen said after a period of mourning he decided to pay tribute to Orville, named after the famous aviator Orville Wright, with the art project.
The Orvillecopter does not fly quite right, but Mr Jansen said he will receive more powerful engines and larger propellers for his birthday, allowing for a more "steady flight".
He said Orville will soon be "flying with the birds".
"Oh how he loved birds," he said. "He will receive more powerful engines and larger props for his birthday. So this hopping will soon change into steady flight."

For what? The cat was hit by a car and died, so he decided to make the cat into something fun that he would still spend time with.

Pauline Wallis
So if we use your theory Kevin, when we lose a loved one, it's ok to stuff them and turn them into a toy. Perhaps a sledge or a frisbee!!!! Look at your family and decide whether you think that's right!

Simon .
Pauline - it's ok to stuff an animal and have it mounted on your wall or sitting on your sideboard - why is this any different - it's all in bad taste but NO-ONE is suggesting stuffing a human so STOP OVERREACTING!

Pauline Wallis
The point I was making Simon is that many people look upon their pets as part of their family so what this man has done will be seen by some as abhorrent and disrespectful. Others like you, don't have a problem with it. That's fine- it's purely a matter of different views and values which we are all entitled to have. I certainly don't think I was overreacting, merely stating my point of view which you OVEREACTED TO!

Simon .
Pauline - Is it my problem that you can't explain yourself properly when trying to distinguish between human family and animal "family"? I said you were overreating based on what you wrote - what you may have meant is not evident in your comment.

Pauline Wallis
The story is about a cat!!!! I was making the point that people feel the same about their animals as they do about their family. It was obvious to me - sorry if it wasn't to you or anyone else By the way - how do you know I've been overeating? lol

Gary Corbett
Its only a cat and a dead one at that I really dont see the problem. And Pauline with regards to doing it with humans Indians have been doing that for ages I remember having a stuffed naan last week

Luis Ogando
Being a cat owner I really shouldn't laugh, but......

Robbie369P .
I would challenge anyone not to laugh at that

sandra
This is strangely not right, like Luis says , shouldnt laugh but....

Kelly Curtis
If it crashes it would be a Cat ass trophy.

Thomas Cat
Especially if it was flying to CATmandu or MOGGYdishu!

Its hardly a dignified animal that licks it's own rear end.

Bob Attoe
doesnt matter if its dignified or not, it should be shown some respect, not made into a freak for idiots to laugh at.

Robbie369P .
Says the man with Mr Bean as his photo!

Gary Corbett
Do animals show us respect? And it is funny. Wheeeeeeee. Stop the pigeon.

Nick Eaton
sick sick sick i would like to stick blades on him and see how hw can fly sic sob

Gary Corbett
Calm down its only a dead cat. Did you get upset at the dead parrot sketch from Monty Python?

Pauline Wallis
Errr Gary - hate to break this to you. Monty Python isn't real, it's a tv show, they were acting. So sorry to be the one to tell you!

Gary Corbett
And are you sure this is real? He is an artist chances are he said it was real for shock value.

Pauline Wallis
No - can't be sure this is 100% real, I can only be guided by the above news report which says that the dead cat was this mans pet. I am 100% sure however that Monty Python is a tv show!

movvi
Brilliant! I love to watch a spat unfurl. The guy is a flight enthusiast - I bet he'd love to take to the skies, dead or alive!

Pauline Wallis
Totally sick! Anyone who has had a beloved, loyal cat in their family for years and then suffered the grief of losing them will be appalled by this. Would he do the same to his granny given the chance?

Michele Oldroyd
Had to laugh at your comment Pauline, all those grannies flying around. I couldn't stuff my fella I can tell you

Pauline Wallis
LOL. Stuffing them is bad enough Michelle but attaching propellers to their legs is quite another - and all in the name of art!

Gary Corbett
Grief at losing a cat really? Nice to see some people have nothing more to worry about. They are called animals and are easily replaced you can go to a shelter and get a new one sometimes for free

Pauline Wallis
Wow Gary - you really are all heart. You must be such a pleasant person to have around. NOT.

Gary Corbett
When it comes to animals i really dont care and probably they have a mutual feeling but I prefer human friends and family.

Michele Oldroyd
You Gary are one sad man, and are missing out more than you know, some people don't have the luxury of family, and a pet is all they have, and believe me grief is just as real for an animal as it is for a human being.

Gary Corbett
I think putting wheels on a live dog is sick

Michele Oldroyd
This just isn't right, I wouldn't do that to my poor boy, cremated and staying with me forever he is, now some of you will call that sick too, but I couldn't stuff him, yuk.

Kevin Jennings
Shouldn't this have been posted on monday when all the other news services ran the story? Too bad Orange was slacking the past two days!

Robbie369P .
Shouldn't you get a life?

Gary Pearson
I don't see a problem?? No one is being hurt is there?? All the crap that's going on on this planet and people are beefing on about this. If it does't hurt you & anyone else & it's not causing any harm to anyone, plus you can eat & sleep without worrying about it....go get a life & get on with it!!!

Bob Attoe
its about showing respect to the animal, not if it is hurting anyone.

IAN H
Superb..........The best use for dead vermin I have ever seen

Michele Oldroyd
Cats are NOT classed as vermin RATS are, trouble is I like rats, does that mean I would like you then?

Keith Harrison
Technically, since cats are regarded as untrainable, they are given the same classification as a rat if it is leaving its faeces in your property.

movvi
I class the ones who poo in our garden and terrorise our dog as vermin quite often!

Arthur Hancock
Why the fuss? This is an ex-cat. His life-force has gone on to another place! Man up folks and get real. Folk are dying by the hundred in Syria and you are whinging over an ex Dutch cat? Get your priorities in order!!!!

Michele Oldroyd
Don't be soft, of course we care about people too, but it does knock me sick the poor cat.

Gary Corbett
The only pain the cat felt was when the car hit it after that I think it was dead. Just burying it would be a waste

Gary Corbett
Just saw another story where they attached wheels to a LIVE dog. Horrified

movvi
My pal's parents did that to their horrid corgi, Chip, when we were kids, and that was in the '80s!

movvi
My husband giggled and said you'd sh*t yourself if you saw that comming towards you! Ha ha ha. What a terrible way to see your beloved pet, though, all mad-eyed and manic, terrorising cows from beyond the grave...

Julie Crumpton
The cat is DEAD!

Sarah Murray
just pure sick and NOT art!
