Dead cat turned into helicopter

A Dutch artist has turned his dead cat Orville into a helicopter - which he calls the Orvillecopter.

Bart Jansen had his pet stuffed after he was hit by a car before enlisting the help of radio control helicopter flier Arjen Beltman to build the unique machine.

The Orvillecopter - "half cat, half machine" - is now on show at the Kunstrai art festival in Amsterdam, the Dutch capital.

Mr Jansen said after a period of mourning he decided to pay tribute to Orville, named after the famous aviator Orville Wright, with the art project.

The Orvillecopter does not fly quite right, but Mr Jansen said he will receive more powerful engines and larger propellers for his birthday, allowing for a more "steady flight".

He said Orville will soon be "flying with the birds".

"Oh how he loved birds," he said. "He will receive more powerful engines and larger props for his birthday. So this hopping will soon change into steady flight."

For what? The cat was hit by a car and died, so he decided to make the cat into something fun that he would still spend time with.

So if we use your theory Kevin, when we lose a loved one, it's ok to stuff them and turn them into a toy. Perhaps a sledge or a frisbee!!!! Look at your family and decide whether you think that's right!

Pauline - it's ok to stuff an animal and have it mounted on your wall or sitting on your sideboard - why is this any different - it's all in bad taste but NO-ONE is suggesting stuffing a human so STOP OVERREACTING!

The point I was making Simon is that many people look upon their pets as part of their family so what this man has done will be seen by some as abhorrent and disrespectful. Others like you, don't have a problem with it. That's fine- it's purely a matter of different views and values which we are all entitled to have. I certainly don't think I was overreacting, merely stating my point of view which you OVEREACTED TO!

Pauline - Is it my problem that you can't explain yourself properly when trying to distinguish between human family and animal "family"? I said you were overreating based on what you wrote - what you may have meant is not evident in your comment.

The story is about a cat!!!! I was making the point that people feel the same about their animals as they do about their family. It was obvious to me - sorry if it wasn't to you or anyone else By the way - how do you know I've been overeating? lol
