Driver carried kids in open car boot

A Romanian father is in trouble after he was caught on camera carrying four children in the open boot of his car on a motorway.
The driver, from Cluj Napoca, Romania, was filmed by another horrified motorist who spotted the youngsters kneeling in the boot.
The footage shows the car moving across two motorway lanes before disappearing up a slip road, just ahead of a giant truck.
Police - who tracked down the car from its registration number - say the driver was arrested and fined.
Cluj traffic police spokeswoman Adnana Ilies rold local media: "The driver was fined twice.
"Once for transporting more passengers than the capacity of the car allows, again for turning left when he should have gone straight on.
"In total he received a 250 euro fine and six penalty points."
what do you think?

I like how they sort of focus on his bad driving rather than parenting too

It's where the engine was in an old Beetle !!

Dan Bartlett
You people had better hope the next time you make an illegal turn or do something out of the ordinary the camera cops dont fine you too! This public surveillance is what the government's love to have. Turn each other in. There is such a thing as public policing. Although I dont condone this behavior. Look over your shoulder next time you do anything. Sheep

Clay Davis
Dan, that is the most important point here. It's probably not the safest thing to do but the thing that must stop is the authorities scrutinizing every move we make, and then creating laws, fining or jailing people who do something outside the prescribed box of acceptable behavior.

dan and clay, you probably come from a time when you could pile a bunch of neighborhood kids int the back of a pickup truck or station wagon and go to the park or lakefront for a picnic. today you would be reported for safety violations and arrested for child endangerment. the days of personal freedom we knew and loved are gone, my friends. we are told how to raise our kids, how to keep them safe, the day is coming when we will be told what we can feed our kids. funny, i don't remember a bunch of dead or injured children on our highways or in our neighborhoods back in the day.

Wade Rowley
We as kids would have thought it was a fun thing to do.....But, I drank from the garden hose and rode my bicycle without a helmet.

Donald Lawson
Joey I agree with you. Steve, The Boot is the trunk of the car in England, and here in Canada & US is footwear. (lived 3 years in Essex @ a little airplane patch without airplanes. and is now a police training centre.

Matthew Stoner
.....Pants is what you wear with your shirt in the US/Canada, here in the UK it's what you wear under your trousers........:Op

John Henderson
And your breath often comes in short ones !

Wade Rowley
Seems to me, that would have been fun as a kid. But then again.... I drank from the garden hose and rode my bicycle without a helmet....

John Henderson
And played Conkers without protective eyeware. Ah - those were the days !

Rebels, the lot of you.

This guy was soooo DUMB! Never would have happened with my dad! He was always smart enough to close the trunk! ;)

Lol

Slightly surprised at the number of people justifying this ... maybe the streets weren't littered with dead children way back when, but ... UK road deaths now, approx 3,500 per year. UK road deaths in 1970s, approx 7,500 per year.

listen, i am not saying that this was a smart move, i am not saying that this should be done or that it was good judgement on the drivers part. what i am decrying is the constant erosion of our personal liberties. maybe i don't agree with the other guys parenting style,,, but to legislate against it?? where does it stop?? seemingly appropriate justifications quickly slide out of control. well this could be harmful to the children. well, so is the breakfast some parents feed their kids, so let's legislate what we can give our children at the breakfast table. and we can say we maintain our freedom because we have four items to choose from. and children, u must report it to the authorities if ur parents stray from the prescribed regimen. seems farfetched?? we already have kids calling cps because they disagree with the limits set by their parents. our children are being inculcated to rely on the nanny state. anyone who can remember the sixties and seventies can attest to the fact that we have lost a great deal of our personal freedoms. with those freedoms comes personal responsibilities. our society is at a precipice and i fear for my grandchildren,,,, for me,,, well,, the die is cast.

Sarah Williams
Are you serious Joey??!! I hardly think eating breakfast cereal and putting children in a ridiculously dangerous position hanging out of the boot of a car can be put on an equal footing of hazard?! You fear for your grandchildren? YOUR children should fear for your grandchildren being around a messed up mind like yours! I wouldn't trust you to look after a houseplant let alone kids!

ffreem200
All it takes I'd the driver ahead to slam on the breaks therefore he has to do the same and boot comes down on the kids or the fall out and the car behind them runs rite over the top of them. Wat a pillock

Sarah Williams
That's exactly what would happen and, unfortunately, the driver behind would have to live with that dreadful image for the rest of their life.

Madonnas dream car boot sale !

If the boot lid fell down, the kid on the right would have lost his arm. They could have lost their heads, even.

I hope you're not serious. The lid isn't nearly heavy enough to do either of those.

Amybe not. But a sharp metal edge - forced dwon by braking at high (motorway) Speeds could have done quite a lot of damage to a child? Not really a smart move this one!
