Hartley and Poole score for Hartlepool

Peter Hartley /PA

Peter Hartley and James Poole were the appropriate scorers when Hartlepool secured their second home League One win of the season.

Poole put the hosts ahead against Notts County from close range, from a Jonathan Franks pass.

County equalised but Hartlepool's highly fitting scoresheet was completed when Hartley nodded in Evan Horwood's free-kick.

It is the first time Hartley and Poole have combined to score for the third-tier's bottom side.

Defender Hartley has netted eight league goals for the north-east club since arriving from neighbours Sunderland in July 2009, while forward Poole has struck 10 times in his 63 appearances.

It reminds of the famous cricket commentary when Brian Johnston impishly uttered the famous words,"The batsman's Holding, the bowler's Willey"

Many years ago whilst in the RAF, I signed off duty in the log as G. Wright and the next person signed in as J. Wong. It kept them amused in the office for days............
