Man close to licking cathedral quest

A man who bet he could lick every cathedral in the country is nearing the end of his quest.

Lawrence Edmonds, 27, from York, was challenged by his friend to complete the task within two years, reports the York Press.

If he fails, he faces the forfeit of having to run naked around York Minster.

Mr Edmonds started his quest earlier this year at Norwich Cathedral, and is now approaching the end of the challenge, with 60 of the 64 cathedrals licked.

The English Heritage worker said Lichfield Cathedral in the Midlands tasted best, with the reddened sandstone beautifully warm on the tongue, while Wakefield tasted revolting, and Perth was "a little gritty".
