Mum names baby daughter Hashtag

Hashtag /Facebook

A mother has been criticised after naming her newborn baby daughter Hashtag.

She announced the name, after the Twitter symbol, with a photo and post on Facebook, reports The Sun.

It said: "Hashtag Jameson was born at 10oclock last night. She weys 8pounds and I luv her so much!!!!"

Hashtags are words or phrases preceded by a # symbol, used on Twitter to identify a subject.

But the name soon attracted its own Twitter hashtags, including #TerribleParenting, #FoolishParents, #YourParentsHateYou and #StupidestNameEver.

One user wrote: "That child is going to need serious therapy." Another tweeted: "This is horrible and cruel."

Last year Israelis Lior and Vardit Adler called their daughter Like, after the approval button on Facebook.

what do you think?

From the mother's spelling the child is doomed. But Hashtag?? Hash for short? Perhaps she'll sign things with # J Poor baby.

How awful. I quite like unusual names but that's got nothing going for it all,

I think it's a pretty thoughtless name at the very least.

What's the betting she's on benefits and has no intention of getting a job and joining normal society. That child will be bullied throughout it's schooling life.

Hashtag would have made an ok middle name but only if her first name was CornedBeef

Oh dear! I know it's the fashion to call babies unusual names, but this isn't a very pretty name, I keep thinking "hag" however, whatever people think, I for one think its awful....it's up to her what she calls her child, only hope the poor child isn't in for a life of misery, although it can be changed, I suppose..

How awful to be named after a trend. The fact that she spells "weighs" the way she does more or less confirms the mother's stupidity. It also annoys me how people use "luv" and "u" etc when leaving messages that are aimed at serious issues and supposed to be sincere - like after someone has died. It is cheap and tacky. Horrid. It's a good job not many can be arsed to send a card anymore - most wouldn't know what to write!

I agree so much Movvi. Those sites which are set up when someone dies, with messages like "miss u h*n so much" and " Luv u 4eva h*n" are repulsive and drive me mad. I really don't mind if people try to write a sincere message on a card and mis spell it because their spelling isn't that great. But that lazy and ignorant text talk makes me lose the will to live. My BIL works as a nurse and a young nurse writes her hand over notes in text speak. He has complained but she's still being allowed to do it! PS the words above, with an asterix, should have the letter "U" but Orange wouldn't allow it so hope this makes sense!

Ha ha ha - perfect sense! The nurse story's a shocker. We find "U" for "you" and "R" for "are" in exam answers now too and we get similar in notes from parents. People seem to have forgotten formality when necessary. Shame!

In 10 years time, Twitter, Facebook etc. will probably be a thing of the past so it will make even less sense Boy: What are you called Hashtag? Was your mother high? Hashtag: Why yes, she was. Thanks for asking.
