One limbed patient attacks nurse

A male nurse needed emergency treatment in Australia after being attacked by a patient with no legs and only one arm.

It took two people, the nurse and a security guard, to tackle and restrain the angry patient at the Royal Darwin Hospital.

The disabled man reportedly punched the 50-year-old nurse repeatedly with his good arm and "flailed his stumps" at him, according to NT News.

The nurse suffered a serious knee injury and was offered counselling after the attack. He is expected to be off work for weeks with his knee in a brace.

Hospital manager Liz Stackhouse confirmed the incident had taken place but refused to discuss further details.

"The matter was dealt with appropriately and the situation was quickly resolved," she said in a statement.

"Royal Darwin Hospital has a clearly stated zero tolerance policy towards aggression and takes very seriously its duty of care to patients, staff and visitors.

"On the rare occasions that an unacceptable incident occurs, it is investigated and appropriate action taken to minimise the likelihood of a reoccurrence.

"Counselling is offered to any staff member who may have been subjected to aggressive or threatening behaviour."
