Priests bless manhole covers

Town Hall officials have asked priests to bless all the manhole covers in their town to stop them being stolen by scrap metal thieves.
Councillors in Lodz, Poland, replaced all 4,000 of the town's manhole covers after the new ones had been blessed at a church service to keep them safe.
Town sewage department president Wlodzmierz Tomaszewski explained: "Lodz's holy patron is Saint Faustina who walked the streets helping the poor and underprivileged.
"By blessing the manhole covers we are blessing the streets and spreading her goodness," he added.
But locals think the project is money down the drain.
"If they think a few prayers will keep all those new manhole covers safe from thieves they need to think again. There won't be one left within a month," said one.
what do you think?

instead of 'blessing manhole covers' why not focus your efforts on helpling your fellow man? you know? like what you preach about all the time? - no wait, that would be practising what you preach wouldnt it? couldnt have that could we? - anyone would think I was an atheist...

Shows what a farce religion is that one of the richest organisations in the world will do anything for money.

Where in the article does it say that the church is getting any money out of this? The town is paying for new manhole covers (which they need)..the church is just blessing them. Sounds like it's the town that needs to be blessed (or, at the very least, prayed for) if they're going around stealing manhole covers!

Metal manhole covers ? Well, it takes allsorts, personally I prefer them made of silk

I find it curious that people will take something so innocuous as blessing a few objects and run with it in such directions so as to take it totally off-topic. The article doesn't say that the church received any money for this, nor does this blessing take away from the fact that the church, in most areas, provides the second-largest amount of social services, second only to the state itself. Also, pulling out the "old saw" of how the church abuses children is a lame way to detract from the good that the church does do, day in and day out, by hard-working men and women (who DON'T abuse children, btw). It's a simple blessing, folks - get over it!

As opposed to relying on human beings alone? Yeah...that's gotten us pretty far, hasn't it? We've done a bang-up job of it thus far! I, personally, will take Pascal's Wager (that is, I'd rather believe in God and be proven wrong than not believe and be proven right.
