Pub ban for fake Rodney Trotter

An underage drinker was branded a plonker - after producing fake ID in the name of Only Fools and Horses' Rodney Trotter.

Doormen got suspicious when they saw the address on the novelty driving licence was 23 Nelson Mandela House, Peckham

It also featured a photograph of actor Nicholas Lyndhurst and date of birth 26 February 1960, reports the Daily Mail.

The youngster, who tried to use the ID at a pub in Newquay, claimed to be 24 when the age on the licence would have made him 52.

The manager of the Newquay Arms, who did not want to be named, said: "He was a bit drunk, he handed over the ID and I looked at it...

"It had Rodney Trotter's picture and I said to him "so this is you?" and he just said "yeah yeah yeah".

"I made the doormen UV the ID just to wind him up really and they started giggling and playing along with him."

ID scanners were brought in at local bars to combat underage drinking in the town, a magnet for teenagers during the summer.

The fake 'Rodney' fled before police arrived but Insp Ian Drummond-Smith said the fake ID could have landed him in serious trouble.

"A forged licence can get you two years," he warned. "People should think very hard about the consequences."
