Stray rocket set off entire firework display

Spectators at a firework display in Edinburgh were sent running for cover when the whole lot went off at once.

A rocket at the Pentland Community Centre display misfired and ricocheted into the remaining fireworks, setting them all off at the same time.

Police and Red Cross representatives attended to spectators but no one was seriously injured, reports the BBC.

Organisers have apologised for the freak accident and said they would be reviewing safety procedures.

A girl suffered a burn to the side of her face and was taken to Edinburgh's Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

It is understood that £2,000 worth of fireworks were involved.

Give credit where it's due. The Scots are dab hands when it comes to pyrotechnics.

I must admit I think fireworks are a waste of money. They're about as much of a waste as tobacco.
