Students go 'milking' in new internet craze

A new viral video craze looks to have taken off after students started filming themselves pouring milk over their heads in public.

'Milking' is set to be the new 'planking' judging by the clips of men pouring four-pint containers of milk over themselves across Newcastle.

Students and graduates are shown 'milking' themselves outside pubs, in busy roundabouts, in a tree and in the middle of the road.

Tom Morris, 22, was behind the video which has been viewed by more than 60,000 people in less than a week on YouTube.

He said: "We were just in our kitchen talking about doing it outside Starbucks in Jesmond and thought it would be really funny.

"We did that, uploaded the video to Facebook and got a load of likes. So then we thought: "Why not just make a video"?"

Student paper The Tab Newcastle reported that students in Oxford, Edinburgh, Nottingham and Cirencester had been filming their own versions of Milking Newcastle.

Reactions to the video have been mixed with some comments filled with puns and praise, but others saying the students' behaviour is immature and a waste of money.

YouTube user SamSmurfet commented: "Holy cow man! Dairy good video. Just semi-skimming YouTube when I found this."

what do you think?

Can't tell you how angry these idiots make me. My son is a hard working student, with three part time jobs, who takes his studying seriously. morons like these make students look like a bunch of wasters. It's not funny, I'd get them to clean the milk off the pavement, and film them for their mates to laugh at.

Oh please shut up. Do you have no sense of humour? Does your Son? It's a gag, nothing more - let things like wars and religion get you angry, not students (who are people, not idiots) having a laugh. Also, I am not a student, I am a 32 year old professional - I just have a life.

Mikey I have a terrific sense of humour but honestly this is just pathetic and cringworthy at its worst. Nothing remotely funny. Just pathetic and also I notice one of them chucked the empty milk container on the floor. Should have been fined.

they should charge them all with dumping rubbish in a public place and if it freezes over and somebody slips and breaks anything they should charge them with the hospital bill

Yes, it could freeze (although it doesn't look that cold in the video). But we live in a country where it rains seemingly more days than not. Compared to that, this is a drop in the ocean. You can go outside and shout at the clouds, or you can decide there's no use crying over spilled milk.

This unfortunately sums up the intellect of many students. Milking the education system more like.

And they wonder why tuition fees are so expensive and educational standards dropping. I would immediately ban such people from a University education. As for the RAP music well that is the NADIR!!!!!

Can you explain the correlation between a few students at a university pouring milk over themselves and the hike in tuition fees please? Actually, given that tuition fees rose before this (admittedly daft) trend began, by your logic that means the ConDem Government's fees hike actually caused 'milking'. Get some perspective - it's some young people acting silly and not harming anyone. If you don't find it funny (like me), so what? Other people apparently do. Live and let live, eh?

Wow crime of the century. Ignore them if they're upsetting you. Don't be so judgemental and save your dislkes for some real issues rather than some guys spending 5 minutes of their life having some harmless fun on a Quirky site! Maybe we should ban fun at Universities...
