Swede claims vertical running record

A Swedish extreme sports fan has brought the house down with his new world record - for sprinting down the side of a building.

Tony Berglund , 47, is in talks with Guinness World Records officials after clocking up a time of just 34.76 seconds over the 100 metre course in Vasteraas, Sweden.

"It was great. I barely had to brake at all," he said.

House running - where athletes in harnesses hurl themselves face down over a sheer drop - came from a rock climbing technique which gets climbers down quickly in emergencies.

The technique originated from the similar technigue used by soldiers as a military 'assault' on a target.

A soldier is belayed, allowing them to face down the descent and fire a weapon, and it is believed that soldiers used the technique to create the sport.
