Teen jailed for obscene gesture at judge

A Miami girl found out the hard way why it is not a good idea to swear at a judge during a court hearing.

Teenager Penelope Soto was jailed for 30 days for contempt of court by Circuit Judge Jorge Rodriguez-Chomat.

Soto, 18, was in court after being arrested for illegal possession of the prescription drug Xanax, reports the Daily Telegraph.

The judge first became irritated when Soto laughed when he asked how much her jewellery was worth as he set bail.

"We're not in a clubm be serious about it," he said, before setting bail at $5,000 and saying "bye bye" to Soto.

She laughed again and replied "Adios" and walked off, only to be immediately called back before the bench.

After her bail was doubled to $10,000, the outraged teenager asked: "Are you serious?" to which the judge replied, "I am serious. Adios."

The teenager then made a lewd hand gesture and blurted out an expletive as she walked away.

The clearly aggravated judge hauled her back again and sentenced her to 30 days in jail.

Erm - the Bible wasn't written down until some time after Jesus' death. The phrase about forgiving "70 x 7 " times was in answer to a specific and provocative question. it is about as relevant to this article as fly fishing on teh river Nadder. (i.e. it's not!)

What an odd system. Having people appear in court on camera from jail, with a queue waiting behind? What is it like Big Brother or something?

Speed sentencing - it's the court equivalent of speed dating. Bring it to the UK (along with the judge) and bring some order. Start with a few MPs lined up.

We actually do have similar here in Scotland, in Procurator courts. I was sat with about 20 others in a row of benches waiting to get my knuckles wrapped. We were all in the court room together and got called up in turn. Most of them were up for motoring offences and domestic disputes. We all heard each others sentences....I was up for speeding offences.....ashamed of myself and had the book thrown at me. It's like the Argos of the minor offences world......

This is where respect must be taught in schools or learnt the hard way.

The teaching of respect should begin with the parents.

Stupid bimbo, got what she deserved. The judge had obviously had his fill of simpletons being paraded before him. Well done, sir!
