Teen warned over chicken nugget diet

A Birmingham teenager has been warned about her diet - after eating nothing but chicken nuggets since the age of two.

Stacey Irvine, 17, who has never touched greens or fruit, is recovering at home after collapsing and being rushed to hospital.

Doctors put her on a course of vitamins after diagnosing her as suffering from anaemia and swollen veins in her tongue, reports The Sun.

Miss Irvine, of Castle Vale, said: "I am starting to realise this is really bad for me."

The only variation in her diet apart from fries is the occasional slice of toast for breakfast - and crisps.

She added: "I first tasted chicken nuggets when my mum took me to McDonald's when I was two. I loved them so much they were all I would eat.

"I just couldn't face even trying other foods. Mum gave up giving me anything else years ago."

Her mother Evonne, 39, said she had tried starving Stacey to get her to try other foods but to no avail.

She admitted: "I'm at my wit's end. It breaks my heart to see her eating those damned nuggets... But she says she can't eat anything else."

Ok Ok its an April fools joke early.....The blame lies squarley at the parents feet you see some peole can not be educated or taught parenting skills. For some youngsters this is completely normal as some people do not care about such basics as a balanced diet for thenselves or their children

McDonald's food when eaten responsibly isn't that bad for you however like any food when taken to the extreme you make it bad for you by eating to much and not having a balanced diet. I personally don't blame the girl and i place the blame on the parents that so obviously failed to take proper care of there child and its clear that the parents were simply being lazy because people do not become addicted to one type of food after one meal so this means that this parent fed there child nothing but chicken nuggets simply because it was easier than making a proper meal. This stinks of neglect and feeding a 2 year old junk food is just irresponsible.

McDonalds food is bad even when eaten responsibly. When my daughter was three a parent sent out for a birthday treat for a child at nursery. Hardly any of them touched it. The salt for those who don't eat it is unbelievable. It has a high proportion of saturated fat and more calories in a big mac than the recommended amount. Wasn't there a documentary that reported this? Going large or something. I'd say not even ok in moderation and no child of mine would be encouraged to eat them

Transfats in these foods cannot be processed and excreted by the digestive system and build up in your arteries. Do I have to paint a picture of the results?

Hi there, my daughter is 7 years old and she is exactly the same. She will only eat chicken nuggets and chips or tins of spaghetti or tins of hoops. She will eat weetabix or toast for breakfast. I have taken her to the doctors but they didn't take it seriously. I have tried making her go without if she doesn't eat something new but she would rather starve herself. I really don't know what else to do for her. She seems so happy and healthy though so I am thinking she's fine. Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

Don't fret Nikki, my daughter is the same & has just been signed off by every hospital bod that took her on. The end result of 5 years of appointments?...."Forget about it!!" I was told I was putting her under too much strain to want to please me & basically she will try different things when she's ready. When I finally conceded defeat it was like a weight had been lifted! Try not to let it take over you x

I know, it's really upsetting, my son who is older is fine, my daughter who is 8 a real problem with eating. And before anyone says anything....she doesn't like chicken nuggets! It's not a junk food thing, she just can't get past this invisible barrier to even put new foods in her mouth! She can't even eat something on her 'yes' list if it has touched something on her 'no' list!

If you are referring to my comment it is not directed at people with legitimate eating disorders but those that have been created by there parents. As you can see from the reporting they state she has eaten chicken nuggets from the age of 2 and when was the last time you seen a 2 year old walk in to McDonald's and order a box of chicken nuggets? So it is the parents that purchased and fed the baby nuggets everyday over and over and because she was so young when they started feeding her them she became totally dependant on thema s a source of food. So they have caused this with there laziness and neglect. This is not a case of natural eating disorder. If you want facts about the parents you only need to look at the reporting. The fact is the so called parents fed there 2 year old baby chicken nuggets junk food over and over by there own admision and what good parent feeds a baby highly addictive junk food? At the end of the day there are good parents with kids with natural eating disorders and then there are bad parents that create eating disorders in there children.

Surely at two you get to control what your child eats? Why would you feed a two year old fast food?

If you are not prepared to take a stance on what your children eat at the age of 2 there is something wrong with you. It's cheaper to provide your family with decent food rather than taking the LAZY option and shoving fast food down their throats to keep them quiet and give you an easy life. Get a grip!

Why take your child to McDonalds at that age and younger? It is a sign of the times, convienence and junk rather than good home cooked food. The parents are a disgrace.

Parents who make mistakes are not bad parents. The only bad parents are ones that can't be bothered to keep trying. Children who refuse to eat anything else know that parents will end up giving in and feeding them what they want.out of fear that their child will "starve" to death. I PROMISE you that that would NOT happen! Don't allow that blackmail! It's very important, though, not to make a big deal out of it when giving your child other foods to eat. Stay firm, NEVER give in, and a few words of praise will not go amiss. It won't be an overnight success, but a success it will be!
