Woman finds ex-boyfriend living in attic
A South Carolina woman found her former boyfriend secretly living in her attic - 12 years after they split up.
The mother-of-five, named by local media only by her first name of Tracy, discovered the man living in a heating duct.
Tracy, who lives in Rock Hill, had been alarmed to hear animal-like noises in the ceiling above her bedroom.
After putting her children to bed, she heard a thump, "then all the nails just popped out of the ceiling over my bed. Like 'bing, bing, bing'," she told TV station WCNC.
Tracy, a nurse, sent her nephew up to check out the sounds and he found the 44-year-old man curled up inside a heating duct.
"He had packed all the old coats and jackets into the heating unit and was sleeping in the heating unit," Tracy told the station.
The man bolted before police arrived. The family guessed he had been living there for several weeks. He left several plastic cups of faeces and urine behind, they said.
He had also tinkered with an air vent in order to spy on the woman's bedroom, the family told WCNC.
Tracy said the man had been in and out of jail since they broke up 12 years ago and was believed to have drug problems, the Rock Hill Herald newspaper reported.
