Women better at parking than men

Woman parking /Rex

Covert surveillance of car parks across Britain has shown that women are better at parking than men.

The study, one of the most comprehensive ever conducted on gender driving differences, found that women were more likely to leave their vehicles in the middle of a bay.

Women were also found to be better at finding spaces, more accurate in lining themselves up before starting each manoeuvre, and more likely to adopt instructors' preferred method of reversing into bays.

Men were shown to be more skilled at driving forwards into spaces and more confident overall, with fewer opting to reposition their car once in a bay.

But once all the elements were taken into account, women were ranked first with a total score of 13.4 out of 20, compared to 12.3 points achieved by men.

Neil Beeson, a professional driving instructor who devised the experiment, described the results as "surprising".

Mr Beeson, who has recently appeared on the ITV show Last Chance Driving School, said: "In my experience men have always been the best learners and usually performed better in lessons.

"However, it's possible that women have retained the information better. The results also appear to dispel the myth that men have better spatial awareness than women.

"It shows that us men need to give our partners more respect when it comes to parking. The facts don't lie."

The study was produced by the car park firm NCP, which employed a team of researchers to observe 2,500 drivers across its 700 car parks in Britain over a one-month period.

I wonder why nature bothered to invent men. Surveys show that anything a man can do, a woman can do better.

Yes, the same as the 'multi-tasking' myth. I've yet to see a barmaid who can pull a pint and talk at the same time, and the postwoman we sometimes get is about four hours later than the men! And before I get clobbered by irate women, my wife is in total agreement with me!

What a load ofrubbish and a waste of money, Iv`e never met a woman yet that can reverse into a bay and to be honest I coul not care less one way or the other. Obviously a woman conducted the survey they are number one at wasting time.

The people who carried out these surveys have not been to the area where I live. I watch in dismay at the women who try to park a car in a parking space and take about six goes and still fail. And as for street parking in the town cemtre, they are absolutely hopeless. This survey has been carried out by women itis fairly obvious. But finally what a waste of time and money to come up with the most ludicrous statement I have ever heard.

Well there you go 2, 500 drivers is all that were involved in this farce of a survey over 700 car parks. In one month. Thats a real good cross section of the entire population is it not. I for one do not use NCP car parks, they are way too expensive. Total waste of Time and Money

The surveyors have far too much time and too much money! I've been driving for 35 years and the worst parkers I have seen are women, so how can this survey have any credence even based on anecdotal evidence!

What a load of rubbish, Its a very well known fact that women have do not have any spacial awareness. its why a womans car is covered in marks and dents. Its true every now and then you do come across a woman who can park but they are very much in the minority. In partial explanation, maybe NCP's tickets have been laced............with testosterone......LOL

What a pointless waste of time. The real agenda of this case of bovine excrement is the relentless attack on men and masculinity. However men of this generation are not very masculine. I am a woman and although I rate myself as a good driver, I can't park with confidence ( I am still newish tho!) I've seen men smoothly reverse into a bay in one go- they have more confidence/cockiness. Women will tackle it slower thus reducing the possibility of mistakes but will pick an easy spot. This pathetic study is flawed.

Compared to standards in other European countries, British drivers overall are extremely lacking in driving skills. They are totally incapable of parking in the middle of a parking bay to allow others to use the bays next to them. It probably stems from the obnoxious, arrogant and selfish behaviour which is spreading across the country. A belief that they are the most important person on the road and no others have a right to be there.

It is very funny how much this incenses men..stereotypes carry on in every way! There are great individual drivers and terrible ones, I hate the way the media does the man vs women thing. On a personal note, I am an excellent parker (of course)..motorbikes and cars, but I've seen terrible displays of parking from all genders and ages..even police driving..they should know better.

I had a summer job as a beach warden many years ago, collecting boat launching fees, litter control, etc. My car used to be parked on the launching slipway because I needed my paperwork, first aid kit and bin bags with me. Women used to drive down with children, realise that they shouldn't be there (in spite of adequate signage) and have great difficulty turning round, even though there was sufficient room. One such woman reversed into my car, and two days later another woman reversed into the hire-car, which carried a £260 insurance excess. Neither woman apologised, and both admitted to ''not concentrating''.

Unless the image has been reversed, the woman shown in the picture is driving a left- hand drive car! Could this indicate that the whole ''survey'' was contrived to provoke controversy?
