Zoo lioness tried to maul toddler
A video of a lioness unsuccessfully trying to maul a toddler through the plate glass of a US zoo has gone viral.
Posted on YouTube two days ago, the clip has already notched up more than 1.3 million views online.
The amateur footage shows Kya the lioness being frustrated by the glass partition at Oregon Zoo in Portland.
Dressed in a zebra-like black and white hooded top, Jack Baltzor appeared relaxed as the lion desperately tried to get at him.
The 250lb lioness swiped furiously at the glass, even trying to grab the child with her jaws.
Filmed by his mother, the toddler simply said "kitty, kitty" as the four year-old lioness continued her hopeless assault behind him.
His mother Heather Baltzor told the Huffington Post: "It was Jack's first trip to the zoo... We were not worried. We thought it was hilarious."
And she added: "We didn't even realise he looked like a zebra until we got home but a lot of the animals in the zoo - the crocodiles and the jaguars - apparently did. They would come up to the glass and look at him."

I agree Jock - why is this "news"? Vaguely amusing I suppose - although I would think if the Lion was serious it would have thrown itself against the glass not just paddled at it. Yawn.

Not funny at all, I wouldn't have sat filming my toddler like that. Accidents happen, it would just take the protective panel to come down..........

Thats crazy. But I dont think thats funny, that the parents are laughing about their child trying to get eaten by a Lion. What would be funny is to see the parents dressed up as a Zebra out there with the lion, NOT behind the protective glass. Then to watch the baby filming it and laughing.

What a non story. Lion doing what a lion does. Girl protected by glass plate...yes a protective glass plate to stop a person coming into contact with the lion. Get a grip Orange...
