Girls Aloud and Sugababes may well be feeling a little anxious. While the former were falling out of dresses and into taxis, and the latter were firing members quicker than Sir Alan Sugar his would-be employees, some bright spark realised that we needed a new girl band.
So here they are. The Saturdays: immaculately turned out Top Shop mannequins sure to get your little brother all hot and bothered and your little sister plastering on the copycat make-up.
'If This Is Love' is a solid, if slightly underwhelming, debut single from the girls. But is that surprising, considering that 40% of the members of the band were in S Club Juniors?
Sadly, this single just can't compare to songs like 'Overload' or 'Sound Of The Underground' (by the 'Babes and GA respectively).
Instead, this mid-tempo electropop sounds suspiciously like an early-2000s Rachel Stevens effort. Maybe the aforementioned girl bands don't need to quake in their killer heels just yet.
