Todd returns to Coronation Street
Beacon of benevolence Todd Grimshaw is on the verge of making a grand return to Coronation Street over Easter. And instead of being, ahem, on his Todd, he'll be bringing his new millionaire boyfriend along for all the street regulars to coo and carp at in a sizing-up manner.
Todd, played by Bruno Langley, became the show's first ever gay character after he tried to tongue-wrestle Nick Tilsley (Adam Rickett) back in 2003. And Nick wasn't the only Tilsley he had eyes for - he was going out with Nick's sister Sarah (Tina O'Brien) at the time and dropped her like a hot potato when he came out of the closet.
However, it's unlikely Todd will get to complete the Tilsley triumvirate by bedding mum Gail (Helen Worth), who's far from pleased to see him return. When the puffy-cheeked personification of evil sees he's got a rich boyfriend called Jools, she taunts: "I see you're a gay gold-digger now then." May God forgive you, Gail, because we won't.
And it doesn't take long for the Street's sex-poppet Rosie Webster (Helen Flanagan) to get her knickers in a twist over the arrival of Todd's fella. "Oh my God. Jools is absolutely gorgeous," she says.
Never one to turn down a challenge, Rosie asks the newcomer: "Are you, like, all the way gay, or do you like girls like me as well?"
We can't help but salute her sense of adventure and "no harm in trying" attitude. Good girl, Rosie.
