Jenkins and Stanford lead Wales

World champions Helen Jenkins and Non Stanford head up a six-strong Wales triathlon team for this summer's Commonwealth Games.

Jenkins, who finished fifth at the London 2012 Olympics, was crowned world champion in 2008 and 2011. She is fourth in this year's standings, 33 points behind third-placed American Sarah Groff.

Stanford claimed the title last year and Welsh Triathlon general manager Beverley Lewis said: "Non and Helen are fantastic ambassadors for Welsh Triathlon and an inspiration to all our Welsh triathletes."

The pair will be supported in Glasgow by Holly Lawrence. The 23-year-old from Swansea made her ITU World Series debut in London last weekend.

The men's team includes Morgan Davies, who was eighth at last year's ITU World Junior Championships in Hyde Park in 2013, Liam Lloyd and Alex Matchett.

Lewis added: "Our younger team members, Holly, Morgan, Liam and Alex will be exciting to watch as they race in Welsh colours.

"Personally I am looking forward to the relay race which will be fast, furious and a fabulous spectator event. Welsh Triathlon wish the team the very best in the build up to Glasgow 2014."

The Games run from July 23 to August 3, with triathlon events taking place on July 24 and 26.
