A's seal sweep of Yankees
The Oakland Athletics completed a four-game sweep of the New York Yankees by beating the American League East leaders 5-4.
Seth Smith smashed a game-tying homer in the ninth inning before Coco Crisp capped the comeback with a walk-off hit in the 12th to earn the A's a fifth straight victory in stunning style.
Elsewhere, Detroit sealed a three-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox with a 6-4 triumph to consolidate top spot in the AL Central. Miguel Cabrera had two homers for the Tigers.
Toronto were another team to continue their good run, downing the Boston Red Sox 15-7 to also complete a three-game sweep. Brett Lawrie, JP Arencibia, Rajai Davis and Travis Snider all homered for the Blue Jays.
In other AL action on Sunday, the Los Angeles Angels defeated the West-leading Texas Rangers 7-4, the Minnesota Twins overcame the Kansas City Royals 7-5, the Seattle Mariners edged the Tampa Bay Rays 2-1 and the Baltimore Orioles secured their fifth straight win with a 4-3 success against the Cleveland Indians.
Ryan Zimmerman went deep twice for three RBI to help the Washington Nationals post a series-splitting 9-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves in the battle of the National League's top two teams.
Matt Holliday and Carlos Beltran crushed back-to-back homers and Lance Lynn pitched six scoreless innings as the St Louis Cardinals trounced the Chicago Cubs 7-0.
Seven shutout innings from Jeff Karstens led Pittsburgh to a 3-0 success against the Miami Marlins - the Pirates' fifth consecutive win and fourth sweep of the season.
Jimmy Rollins' walk-off single in the 12th inning earned the Philadelphia Phillies a 4-3 triumph over the NL West-leading San Francisco Giants, while Matt Treanor's pinch-hit two-run single sparked a five-run 12th inning for the Los Angeles Dodgers in their 8-3 victory against the New York Mets.
Also in the NL, the Central-leading Cincinnati Reds won 2-1 against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Arizona Diamondbacks thrashed the Houston Astros 8-2 and the San Diego Padres beat the Colorado Rockies 3-2.
