Abbot inspect due to waterlogging

Friday afternoon's National Hunt meeting at Newton Abbot is under threat due to a waterlogged track after persistent rain.

Clerk of the course Jason Loosemore has called an inspection for 1pm on Wednesday and he reports the situation to be pretty bleak at the Devon venue.

He said: "We're heavy and waterlogged in places. Since last Tuesday, we have had 93 millimetres of rain and it's another damp day today with more rain forecast.

"We'll inspect at 1pm and I'm not really optimistic about our chances.

"It's been a terrible year for everyone and this would be the fifth meeting we've lost to waterlogging this year.

"It's been an exceptional year and the rain we have had has been in inch increments rather than millimetres, which is a lot to take."
