Carlisle manager Greg Abbott hailed super-sub Liam Noble after his stoppage-time strike sealed a 2-1 win over Walsall.
Noble came on in the 85th minute and had already hit a post by the time he coolly rounded Saddlers goalkeeper Karl Darlow and shot low into the empty net.
Abbott said: "He can play, and he's probably the best we have in that situation to score.
"It was a fantastic game of football and a terrific advert for League One, with both sides trying to win the game.
"I think we had that bit extra power, strength and experience with 24 and 25-year-olds rather than the 19 and 20-year-olds of Walsall, and that might be the problem they will have through the season in getting consistency.
"But I have a lot of time for Dean (Smith, Walsall manager) and his staff for what they are trying to do, with finances. It's difficult but he's doing a great job."
