Activial shines in Adonis

Harry Fry's Activial was an impressive winner of the betbright.com Adonis Juvenile Hurdle at Kempton on Saturday.

Solar Impulse and Fitzwilly set the pace, but Noel Fehily was always going well on the 9/4 favourite and he quickened nicely from two out.

Four were in with a chance jumping the penultimate obstacle, but the grey quickly put the race to bed between the last two flights and he powered away for a three and a half length success.

Commissioned (4/1) was second with Solar Impulse (9/2) third.

The win paid a huge compliment to Paul Nicholls' Calipto, who beat Activial at Newbury earlier in the season.

Sky Bet cut Activial to 12/1 from 25s for the Triumph, with Calipto shortened to 6/1 from 7s as well.

Spokesman Michael Shinners said: "That was a good performance from Activial who asserted his authority on the contest impressively in the closing stages.

"He's halved in price for the Triumph and we've trimmed Calipto too after the form boost."

However, Harry Fry warned punters Activial might not line up at Cheltenham.

"Noel Fehily's first words were 'not necessarily a Triumph horse'," said Fry.

"He'll stay in the race, and we'll see. The Aintree race is worth aiming for as well, but I've not made my mind up. Cheltenham this year might be a year too soon.

"I'm delighted with him. The Newbury race was the best juvenile this season and he looks a lot stronger now.

"There's lots to look forward to. He's got a great attitude, he loves to jump and gallop."
