Micky Adams has been rewarded for guiding Port Vale to second place in League Two with the manager of the month award.
Vale are just three points adrift of table-topping Gillingham after suffering only one defeat in September - to the Gills.
Adams' side picked up four wins and a draw during a productive month which has them well-placed to push on towards automatic promotion.
Vale plundered 16 goals in six fourth tier fixtures in September, and were breached on just eight occasions.
Adams acknowledges that things are going well, but he is keen to point out that there is still a long way to go in the 2012/13 campaign.
He told the club's official website: "This has been a very difficult time for everyone at Port Vale and this is a nice reward for everyone who has worked hard for the good of the club, both on and off the pitch.
"That includes my coaching staff, all of the administration staff and the people who don't normally grab the headlines. It's important that everyone recognises their contribution too. I also thank the supporters, who have been magnificent since the start of the campaign.
"We are not getting carried away by our start to the season because there is a long time between now and the end of the campaign. That said, I am pleased with some of our performances so far and we will be looking to take the positives from those into the next match and beyond."
