Adams named Steelers coach

Sheffield Steelers have appointed former player Gerad Adams as their new head coach for the rest of the Elite League season.

The 35-year-old Canadian - part of the league and play-off double-winning Steelers side in 2004 - left his role as player-coach of Cardiff Devils in December after nine years in south Wales.

Adams will take charge for the first time at Nottingham Panthers on Saturday, with his first home game coming against Devils in Sheffield on Sunday.

He said: "This is a great opportunity. I came to the Steelers as a player all those years ago because I wanted to win - nothing has changed.

"I'm back in Sheffield because I want to win. The Steelers have a great group of players, experienced, talented and I am sure as desperate to win as I am."
