Adams takes world silver again

Nicola Adams had to settle for a third consecutive World Championship silver medal after falling to a 14-10 defeat against China's Ren Cancan.

It was a disappointing result for Adams in the flyweight final in Qinhuangdao, as she was beaten by the same opponent in the final in Bridgetown two years ago, though that pain will have eased significantly by the knowledge she had already done enough to qualify for London 2012.

Adams was made to pay for a sluggish start as Ren scored early to establish a two-point lead at the end of the first round. Although the Leeds boxer enjoyed increasing success with right hands, Ren extended her lead throughout.

It is now left to Adams' team-mate Savannah Marshall to try to become Britain's first women's world champion on her 21st birthday when she faces Elena Vystropova of Azerbaijan in the middleweight final later.
