Adcock and White in quarters
Chris Adcock and Gabby White have reached the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles at the Victor Korea Badminton Open.
Adcock and White won a thrilling three-game battle with European champions Robert Mateusiak and Nadiezda Zieba to reach the last eight in Seoul.
Adcock and White came from a game down to win 20-22 21-19 21-15 in 74 gruelling minutes.
The England pair might have won in straight games had they been able to convert a game point against the Polish eighth seeds at 20-19 in the opening game, having recovered from 17-15 down. But the Poles took it on their first game point.
In the second game Adcock and White were always setting the pace and led
19-17, before Mateusiak and Zieba pulled level at 19-19. But the English National champions held their nerve to win the next two points to level the contest.
Once Adcock and White drew level at 2-2 in the decider they never looked back and built steadily on a 13-9 lead to take the match.
Their reward for victory is a quarter-final against Chinese top seeds Xu Chen and Ma Jin.
Meanwhile Adcock's men's doubles partner Andy Ellis has been ruled out of next week's Maybank Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur after suffering an injury to his right knee in Wednesday's first-round clash with Rasmus Bonde and Mads Conrad of Denmark.
Head coach Kenneth Jonassen, who has been at hospital with Ellis,
said: "It seems to be damage to the ligament in the right knee but we still don't know how bad it is. We are hoping for the best but he is definitely out next week and will return to Milton Keynes for scans and treatment."
