Adey not returning to Giants

Elite League coach of the year Paul Adey will not be returning to Belfast Giants next season.

Adey, 50, guided Giants to the league title - winning by 23 points - and also to the play-off and Challenge Cup finals, which ended in defeat, in his first campaign at the Odyssey Arena.

Giants general manager Todd Kelman admitted they could not reach an agreement for next season but added: "Paul has done a great job for us. He won a league title and advanced to the finals for the other two major titles."

Adey is the second coaching departure in the Elite League in the space of 24 hours after Sylvain Cloutier left Hull Stingrays by mutual consent.

Cloutier, 40, has been player-coach at Hull Arena for the past five years, steering Stingrays to the play-off finals weekend for the first time in 2012 and last season helping the team break several club records.

He said: "I have had five great years with the Stingrays and will take away with me a lot of memories."
