Adkins: Royals will hold nerve

Nigel Adkins has backed Reading to hold their nerve as the Sky Bet Championship play-off race hots up.

Leicester and Burnley may be well clear in the automatic promotion spots but competition for the next four places is as fierce as ever with the Royals currently lying seventh, a point behind Nottingham Forest and two adrift of Wigan.

And with his side unbeaten in four matches, Adkins is confident Reading can get back into the top six and secure an extended season as they bid to return to the Premier League.

"Credit to Leicester and Burnley, they've put themselves in great positions in the table," said the Royals boss.

"But we're in the race, in the mix. We want to get back to the Premier League and we want to do it this season. The play-off positions are up for grabs.

"We've had to deal with so many situations this year but we're still in there. Now we look forward to the remaining 10 - actually the remaining 13 - games of the season.

"We're in a good vein of form, undefeated in a few, and in every game we look like we could win it. Momentum is key, and since the turn of the year we've had a good run and the performances have been good.

"Players have been consistent. We've had injuries like all clubs but we keep a consistency about us and we're looking forward to it."
