Agony for Scotland's women

Scotland's women suffered an agonising last-gasp 3-2 defeat to Spain after extra-time in Wednesday's Euro 2013 play-off.

Anna Signeul's side had headed into the clash in Madrid knowing they needed to produce the goods after being held to a 1-1 draw in the first leg at Hampden on Saturday.

The Scots led twice through Emma Mitchell and Kim Little and, although those goals were cancelled out by Adriana and Silvia Mesegeur, the visitors looked set to progress on away goals.

Goalkeeper Gemma Fay even produced a superb save to deny Vero from the penalty spot late on as Scotland came within touching distance of booking their place at a major finals.

But they were dealt a devastating blow when Spain grabbed the winner with the last kick of the ball, Vero making amends for the spot-kick miss moments earlier.

The winner in injury-time of extra-time secured a dramatic 3-2 win on the night for the Spaniards, who triumphed in the play-off with a 4-3 aggregate victory.
