AIK open to Hooiveld return

AIK Stockholm sporting director Bjorn Wesstrom has acknowledged a deal to re-sign Southampton defender Jos Hooiveld could be an 'interesting' proposition.

Hooiveld played for AIK earlier in his career before leaving for Celtic in January 2010 and subsequently moving down to Southampton 18 months later.

The 30-year-old's future at St Mary's is uncertain after making just three Premier League appearances this season and Hooiveld recently confirmed he will discuss his situation at the end of the campaign.

He has been linked with a return to Sweden and Wesstrom appears prepared to consider the prospect of bringing Hooiveld back at AIK.

Wesstrom told Sport Expressen: "We are in contact with Jos, more on a personal level. We keep up relationships with those we love.

"It seems silly to shut the door. He was a high-profile and skilled footballer who was with us and contributed to the success we had back then.

"He also helped to improve our finances because he was sold at a high level compared to what he was bought for.

"He is a player who was both a bargain and a good player, so it is clear that is interesting for us in many ways.

"Whether he will fit in with the position the club is in, I cannot say today how it looks going forward."
