All fine at Ascot

Racing on the round course at Ascot will go ahead as scheduled on Saturday afternoon meaning an eight-race card will take place.

Contingency plans were put in place earlier this week due to the substantial rainfall so that if the races on the round course needed to be abandoned there would still be a six-race card.

However, after a dry night clerk of the course Chris Stickels was able to give the first two races of the day the green light after an 0630 BST inspection.

"Racing on the round course goes ahead," said Stickels.

"We had a dry night. The going is soft on the straight course and heavy, soft in places on the round course."
