Almagro and Pospisil crash out
Seeds Nicolas Almagro and Vasek Pospisil were both beaten in the second round of the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur.
Spaniard Almagro was the highest-seeded player in action on Wednesday at number three but was beaten 6-4 6-3 by France's Adrian Mannarino in only an hour and 16 minutes.
Seventh seed Pospisil put up a closer fight but still lost in successive tie-breaks against a player 19 places below him in the world rankings, Argentina's Federico Delbonis winning 7-6 (7/2) 7-6 (7/1).
There were better fortunes for fifth and sixth seeds Julien Benneteau and Dmitry Tursunov in the first round.
Benneteau beat Poland's Michal Przysiezny 7-6 (8/6) 6-4 while Tursunov cruised past Rajeev Ram of the United States 7-5 6-0.
Ram's compatriot Ryan Harrison lost 6-3 6-2 to Joao Sousa while Marcos Baghdatis beat Carlos Berlocq 7-6 (7/3) 6-3.
