Nicolas Almagro retained his Nice Open title after defeating world number 216 Ben Baker in straight sets.
Baker had entered the tournament without a main tour win in seven years but has enjoyed a fairytale run this week, which included a three-set victory over former world number three Nikolay Davydenko.
There was to be no happy ending for the 27-year-old American, however, as he went down to clay-court specialist Almagro 6-3 6-2 today.
Third seed Almagro, who has not dropped a set en route to defending his title, broke Baker in the seventh game and again in the ninth to take the first set.
Baker was broken twice more in the second set as Almagro wrapped up victory in 70 minutes.
