Alonso: Small changes needed
Sunderland defender Marcos Alonso insists his side only need to make small changes in order to get the results they need to stay up.
The Black Cats have come mightily close to two impressive results in recent weeks, with a Wes Brown own goal the difference between Sunderland and Everton last weekend, and Vito Mannone's mistake costing them three vital points at Manchester City on Wednesday.
And Alonso believes that changing the little things that affect these results could see them complete a remarkable late survival bid.
"We were very unlucky with Man City's last goal," Alonso told the Sunderland Echo. "We absolutely deserved the win.
"But we just have to keep fighting and get focused for tomorrow and the game against Chelsea.
"Everton only had a couple of chances, but we went home with zero points.
"At Man City, again we deserved more, but we just need to concentrate on the small details which can change the game one way or the other."
The 23-year-old loanee also refused to blame Mannone for the City defeat, stating it was just unfortunate more than anything.
"We can't blame Vito Mannone for City's second goal, though. It was just one of those unlucky things," Alonso added.
"He was down in the dressing room afterwards after missing out on those two points.
"We knew how important it was for us but the game is gone now.
"We just need to back him now."
