It was America's day at the Internationaux de Strasbourg as Madison Keys and Christina McHale both reached the semi-finals.

Keys, 19, was a 6-2 2-6 6-2 winner over Germany's Julia Goerges, who was looking for a third straight victory over an American.

It will be Keys' second appearance in a WTA Tour semi-final this year after she reached the same stage in Sydney in January, losing to Angelique Kerber.

In the last four the teenager will face Puerto Rico's Monica Puig, who knocked out fourth seed and former champion Andrea Petkovic 6-4 6-4.

McHale benefited from the retirement of her opponent Zarina Diyas at 6-2 3-1 and next meets Spain's Silvia Soler-Espinosa, a 3-6 6-4 7-5 winner over Camila Giorgi.
