Amore Alato toughs it out

Amore Alato (12/1) was a game winner of the William Hill - In The App Store Novices' Hurdle at Kempton on Boxing Day.

The four-year-old led from the start under Richard Johnson and saw off all challengers, the most potent coming from Paul Nicholls' Fascino Rustico (16/1) who had to settle for second.

Dubai Prince didn't pick up in the soft ground while the well-backed Vaniteux also failed to make any significant inroads once Barry Geraghty asked him for his effort rounding the home turn.

Instead Amore Alato poured it on from the front, with Fascino Rustico and Sgt Reckless snapping at his heels jumping the final obstacle.

Nick Williams' charge found more in the closing stages, though, the winning distance a length and a half in the end.

Sky Bet introduced the winner into the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' betting at 25/1 and spokesman Michael Shinners said: "It was a bit of a war attrition and Dubai Prince clearly didn't run his race in the ground. We expect better Sky Bet Supreme clues to come out of the Grade 1 at Leopardstown on Friday."
